Pool Stuff

With the pool deck quote in hand, its time to take a look at the pool proper. Chuck and the boys got a lot of use out of the pool last year. SWMBO got good use out of it, and I dipped my toes in from time to time. But its there, so I need to get it fixed up and serviceable to match the deck.

When we tried to remove the cover this spring, all the leafs on it slumped into the pool, and now we have a mess on our hands. I may call in a pool company to clean it up and get it open.

But this isn't about that.

What this is about is integrating the pool work with the deck work. The pool work will involve replacing the broken sections of coping in the corners of the pool where the concrete has moved, and adjusting the height of the strainer basket and handhole.

As you can see in these photos, there is some work to be done here.

The Concrete has dropped about 4 inches over 3 feet. Hopefully our retaining wall and gardens will prevent the deck from going out of level again. The epoxy overlay we got quoted yesterday will bring things back to a 2% grade (nearly level) for drainage.

Movement in the concrete has broken all four corners of the coping. Along the sides of the pool, the coping is in pretty good shape, but I wonder if it will all need replacing to get a good colour match.

The liner itself is in pretty good shape, apart from a little fading. I hope we don't have to replace it.

A quick call to International Pools and I am happy to report that there is a riser available to adjust the height of the  handhole (Yay!) also, our coping is a stock item, and could likely be replaced fairly easily (Yay!) finally, to reattach the liner at the corners of the pool, the vinyl can be heated and stretched into place, then glued to the slot it is supposed to rest in so it won't pop back out. Labour to do all this is about $165 per hour.

I sent these photos to International, now we'll have to see what their estimate comes back at.
